Kalta (Short) Tower

According to oral traditions, the Kalta (Short) Tower was located on the left bank of the Kara-Darya River, east of the village of Sheraly, at the foot of the northern slope of the Tööchü adyr, near the crossing situated between the tower and the middle fortress (Orto-Korgon). At night, the guards on the Uzgen Tower and the Kalta Tower signaled each other by lighting fires. Incoming caravans would wait at the caravanserai beneath the Kalta Tower until the water level of the Kara-Darya decreased and the crossing became passable. Today, this site has been destroyed and lost; a mausoleum now stands in its place.
